The well knew her name before she spoke it. Greta's fingers hovered above the water, ripples blooming beneath them like a greeting. The carved faces along the rim stirred in their stone sleep. Behind her, the cottage candle guttered once, a warning, or a welcome.
Prompt
Depict a forgotten Brothers Grimm fairy tale scene deep in an ancient German forest at dusk: a young cloak-wearing woman with a woven willow basket discovers a moss-covered stone well glowing faintly with blue witch-light, its rim carved with cryptic runes and tiny sleeping faces. Gnarled oak trees lean inward like watchful elders, their bark textured with knots resembling half-hidden eyes, roots twisting across the muddy forest floor strewn with fallen amber leaves and clusters of pale mushrooms. Fireflies drift through shafts of dying golden sunlight piercing the canopy, illuminating drifting mist that pools low around the well's base. The woman's expression shows cautious wonder, her breath visible in the cool air, fingers hovering just above the water's surface where faint ripples form without touch. In the background, a crooked thatched-roof cottage with a crumbling chimney sits half-swallowed by ivy and shadow, a single warm candlelight flickering in its cracked window. Render in the painterly style of 19th-century folklore illustration—rich oil-painting textures, deep chiaroscuro shadows, muted forest greens and burnt-umber tones contrasted with the eerie cyan glow of the well. Compose as a medium wide shot with slight low-angle framing, shallow depth of field softening the background cottage while keeping the woman and well in crisp focus, evoking mystery, folklore dread, and quiet enchantment.
